Responsibilities

An entrepreneurial and strategic leader with a social heart and strong financial background

  • You assume the general management of the organization in a hands-on way. The co-op members’ money is invested through loans into microfinance institutions and sustainable smallholder agriculture organizations. You oversee these investment operations with special attention to risk management. You manage Alterfin in a financially healthy way, ensuring budget efficiency and cost management.
  • As a strategic thinker you develop a clear vision on how to shape the strategy of Alterfin for the coming years, together with the Board of Directors and the team. You translate the approved strategy into a structured annual work plan and lead the implementation.
  • You bring a refreshing perspective, dare to think outside the box and to explore various and diverse avenues, such as derisking strategies or fund management. You are sensitive to the current and future role of co-op members.
  • You know how to inspire your team of passionate and engaged employees. As an empathetic people manager, you are close to your team and serve as a true motivator for achieving collective goals.
  • Moreover, as Managing Director of Alterfin, you are the face of the organization, strengthening the visibility of sustainable finance towards the Belgian public and the impact finance sector.

You report to the Board of Directors.

Profile

  • You have solid experience in financial management including risk and portfolio management in a financial institution.
  • You rely on proven experience in executive management. Vision and strategy are comfort domains along with defining tactics and driving implementation.
  • You are passionate about or have experience in the impact sector, understanding the importance of creating positive social change.
  • You bring hands-on experience in managing and leading teams, with a strong focus on development and team cohesion.
  • You have worked in international, multicultural environments and are comfortable navigating diverse contexts.
  • You have strong project management skills, with the ability to plan and execute projects efficiently.
  • Your entrepreneurial mindset drives you to take initiative and identify opportunities for growth.
  • You are willing to be present in Brussels at least a few days per week to stay engaged and connected.
  • You are fluent in English (the working language) and proficient in either Dutch or French to communicate effectively with stakeholders.
