Our client is a leading player in the industrial sector, specializing in the production of advanced materials and steel products. With a workforce of nearly 1,000 employees at their Belgian site, they are a key contributor to the local economy and industry. The company manages large-scale logistics operations, shipping hundreds of tons of products daily across the globe via multiple transport modes: road, rail, sea, and air. Their dynamic Transport Department is central to ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of goods.

Context and Scope:

The client is undergoing a transformation within their expedition and transport operations at their Charleroi site. Recent challenges, including a growing volume of shipments and outdated processes, have underscored the need for modernization and efficiency improvements.

A key area of focus is the dispatch department, which has faced setbacks over recent years. The previous project manager initiated changes but departed after a year, leaving a critical need for continued transformation. The interim project manager will play a pivotal role in driving these efforts forward, ensuring that transport operations align with the latest tools and technologies, including SAP and Transporeon.

The interim manager will work closely with the supply chain manager, project team, and other key stakeholders. 

Key objectives include:

  • Overhauling and optimizing key transport and expedition processes.
  • Driving compatibility and integration with modern IT tools.
  • Leading the transformation to a more efficient, scalable operation.
  • Reviewing and improving customs and dispatch operations, including the selection of transport providers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Manage and guide the transport and dispatch team to achieve transformation goals.
  • Process Optimization: Analyze existing workflows, identify inefficiencies, and implement improvements for better productivity and cost control.
  • Budget Oversight: Manage and monitor the transport budget.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with the supply chain manager, project team, and business support teams to ensure alignment.
  • System Integration: Leverage tools like SAP and Transporeon to optimize transport processes.
  • Customs Management: Ensure compliance with customs formalities and maintain relationships with customs authorities and freight forwarders.
  • Performance Monitoring: Develop and report key transport statistics and KPIs.
  • Cross-Site Coordination: Collaborate with transport teams at other sites to align on best practices and shared projects.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field or equal by experience
  • Experience:
    • Proven track record in managing multi-modal transport operations.
    • Strong background in customs management and freight forwarding.
    • Substantial experience in driving change within supply chain or transport operations.
    • Skilled in project leadership, with the ability to motivate and guide teams effectively.
  • Skills:
    • Expertise in IT tools and systems for transport management (e.g., SAP, Transporeon).
    • Strategic mindset, with a focus on continuous improvement.
    • Strong organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Languages: Proficient in English (written and spoken); French is your mother tongue.
